First Impression: Katekyo Hitman Reborn

Way to go, Tsuna…

I´ve almost finished Yakitate Japan and was searching another shounen anime with crazy basic idea, when I ran into Katekyo Hitman Reborn. Series where a baby trains school boy to be 10th mafia boss? Yes, please.

Reborn consists of most awkward transformation scene and ignorant people ever. After male protagonist Tsuna receives his power-up, his clothes tear off leaving only boxers on. With just underwear on, he´s truly the boss and he jumps around saving the day. And his classmates don´t even question why he´s half-naked, they think it´s cool…

Reborn´s characters are a little bit too one-dimensional. I can´t feel them as personalities, their facial expressions are somewhat the same all the time and they are like carved from the same wood. I like the concept of Reborn very much, but it´s characters disappoint me. Unlike Yakitate Japan which had a great plot and memorable characters from the beginning, Reborn leaves me cold.

Gokudera´s decisionHorrible childhood memory

I´ll keep watching this because of Gokudera, Tsuna´s first subordinate. He´s my ray of hope, one of the characters who actually feels like a human and are funny. And I admit it, his admiration towards his boss is…interesting. Those sparkly eyes when he talks to Tsuna are too provoking. I hope this series rises from the depth of paper-thin characters, because plot seems exciting and I need an replacement for Yakitate Japan.

the manga’s sooo much better. the anime kinda sux in my opinion

lelaani: So very true, manga´s awesome, but anime still amuses me. It´s nice to see those scenes from manga animated, even if they are censored.
