Toward the Terra episodes 1-9

Blue flirts with Jomy… at space

Or Terra he… This 24 episodes long TV series aired at 2007 and is an remake of the same named movie from 80´s. Original manga author, Keiko Takemiya, is also known as one of the first yaoi authors ever. Even if Terra he is more like scifi shoujo than yaoi, there´s still so many hints you can´t close your eyes from them.

I´ve watched 10 episodes, but this post contains 9. Why? First arc ends at episode 9. Terra got me hooked so you can expect more posts about it. I will try to divide the series to arcs and write about them as a whole. First arc is main character´s youth.

You can check basic info from ann. It tells only about the plot, not characters, so here´s more facts. Main hero Jomy Marquis Shin lives at the world controlled by computer. When every child of that world reach the age of 14, they receive adulthood exam where their memories of past are erased. Jomy fails this exam because he´s Mu, member of new race with telepathic powers. He escapes government´s forces to the spaceship of Mu´s. He meets Soldier Blue, leader of Mu, and due to some incidents becomes the leader himself.

Sam tries to cheer Keith up with plushie

But what really got me hooked was the change of main character. Around episode 6 narrator changes from Jomy to his old school mates and some new ones too. Now we see what happens after adulthood exam. Jomy´s friend Sam passes the exam and is transported to space colony where the future leaders are educated. He becomes friendly with rather distant student Keith Anyan. Soon Sam and Jomy´s old female friend, Swena, arrives at the colony but leaves as soon as she came. Four years pass and Keith and Sam are 18 years old already, when a new student arrives. He´s Seki Rei Shiroei and he have a bad obsession about Keith. That´s all I will say now about the plot of Terra he. I don´t want to spoil more.

Terra he is brilliant with it´s different character designs, switching main characters and the fact people actually age here. At the beginning Jomy, Keith and Sam were 14, but now at episode 10 they are already 26 years old.

Keith helping Shiroei

So far relationships between male characters are so hinting that even non-yaoi fans can see them. Sure there´s been three mentionable female characters, but two of them are mother figures and the last married to some unknown guy. Relationships between guys goes like this: Jomy is sad because he lost the contact with his best friend Sam. Then Soldier Blue comes, flirts with him and Jomy falls in love with him. Jomy´s favourite place of Mu´s spaceship is Blue´s bed. He hangs around there when he have free time and when he doesn´t have. Meanwhile Sam is at the training centre of childs who just passed the adulthood exam. He meets Keith Anyan and they become friends. As years go by their friendship deepens. Until one day when new kid Seki Rei Shiroei starts to stalk Keith. First Keith is confused but soon he´s all over Shiroei. He starts to develop “strange” feelings towards him and Sam becomes jealous.

Do I need to say more to make my point clear? There´s this much subtext already and I´ve just watched 10 episodes. I can´t wait to see what happens next… Next arc coverage comes when I´ve finished watching the episodes of it.

Btw. I ordered first manga album of Terra he.

  1. Loved Terra ;-)
Hated that Pisces or whatever her name is. Incompetent dumbass, that one. Did Blue really love her? Or was Keiko-sensei forced to pull that bit out of thin air? I know the original was first published during the 80s, tolerance for yaoi was nowhere near as todays. And even today girls cant openly admit they love yaoi, yet. Eventhough guys go around saying they love lesbians.
I loved Tony by the way! He is so hot, powerful, arrogant, mean, sexy and obsessed with Jomy! They’d make a cute couple! Damn that Blue for saying he loved Pisces when he kicke it anyway.
Shiroi by far is my favourite. Keith was so innocent and sexy at the beginning. He did have feelings for Shiroi. Cant forgive him for what he did to him though.
Hate that doormat Matsuoka by the way. Its amazing how Terra can make you cheer for a character at one episode and hate them in the next! Love it!

  2. I love Tony, too. His *cough* admiration towards Jomy is interesting ;D

I don’t know why, but I like Matsuoka. His sacrifice in the end of series made me cry like crazy. But I can also understand why you hate him. Sometimes his indecisiveness gets to my nerves too.

“Its amazing how Terra can make you cheer for a character at one episode and hate them in the next! Love it!”

    This is so true. ^^
